all race bikes use a reversed GP shift pattern meaning your foot is UNDER the shift lever instead of on top during a downshift. this means that after downshifting while entering a left hand turn he runs the potential of trapping his foot between the lever and the ground. This is why a few riders, not just Rossi take there foot off while entering left handers. Ironically the reason they use a reverse shift pattern is to avoid the same danger while up shifting at the apex of the curve.
