8000+ Kilometers

(my written french sucks so I will ask in english, please feel free to respond in french)

Hi all,

I am thinking of taking my first road trip (on a bike) soon. I am looking at heading out to Edmonton. Yeah I know it's 8000 Kms there and back.
My question is how do you prepare for such a trip? Hoe do you prepare yourself and the bike? What do you bring along? What's the absolute minimun? Oil? Flat repair kit?
What would you do?

I just did 5000 km in less than 3 weeks, no problem, just added chain wax... that it.

Wow thanks. I do have an mp3 player. The Rio but the stupid thing always breaks when I use it on the Motorcycle. I wonder if there's a magnetic field or electronic disturbance or something. Anyway it's still on warranty (2 times in one month!!!!)

So did you did you do all 5000 kms on the ZX12R?

My Rio play well, i have 2 speakers in my helmet.

Awesome.

What kind of speakers do you have in your helmet? I am looking to get some.
So far I use sony ear pieces on my ears and put the helmet over.
It hurts...

You can also try these ones from Sony (MDRNX1B, MDREX51LP or MDREX71SL), they are very small and have a good fit under an helmet. The sound is very good also. They are the best fit and sound I have tried under my helmet !

You have the Rio Karma? I had to change it 2 times in 2 weeks. Right now I sent it back to RIO. They will send me a new one.
Where do you keep it when you ride? I usually keep it in my jacket pocket.

I have the Rio Cali and wear it clipped at my belt or clipped outside of my jacket.

Ah, but the rio cali is a Flash based unit. Mine is the 20 gig hard disk one. I think the hard disk is very fragile or many there are magnetic fields that originate on the motorcycle and scramble the disk. I've fried 2 in two weeks. It's too much of a coincidence for me.
