Melandri wins Valencia finale
Italian Marco Melandri has backed up his maiden MotoGP suiccess in Turkey two weeks ago with victory in Sunday's season-ending Valencia Grand Prix. The Gresini Honda rider beat race-long rival Nicky Hayden into second by 0.097 seconds with Valentino Rossi fighting back from 15th on the grid to third.. "It's been a great month for me," Melandri said. "The race was great, I took the lead and got into a good rhythm and then it was just me and Nicky. I tried to pull away but at half distance I slowed slightly to offer him the lead but it's so difficult to overtake that I stayed in front and so I pushed for the win. "It's great end to the season and I'm very emotional," he added. Hayden was disappointed now to have added a second win to that of Laguna Seca but is now looking froward to a strong fourth season in MotoGP next year. "I felt really goods and comfortable and I was just looking for a gap to put the nose in but we've finished the season well and I'm looking forward to next season now," Hayden said. "We need to make that next step, I believe in myself and the team and we just need to be a bit stronger next season." Rossi was content with third having started so far down the grid following Saturday's horrific crash in qualifying, but reiterated that Yamaha must develop the M1 so that it's easier to set up. "We struggled to much with the bike to get the right settings," he said. "We understood the problem this morning but it was too late win. It was a great recovery but we need to do a better job next time." The loss meant that Rossi remains on elevent wins this season, therefore failing in his bid to equal Mick Doohans's record of 12 wins in a season. So the season is over on the track, but behind the scenes, the transfer discussion will continue, contracts will be signed and new partnerships will get down to work immediately with many teams staying at Valencia for testing on Monday. ![]()

From 15 Position to 3rd
Congrats to Marco and Nicky, they both did a great race. Gibernau as usual bad luck with the Bike mechanical problem or Somebody in Sete's mechanic crews must hated him... engine blow for the RCV is just another rare thing... ... Out of the Race again the curse continue P.S: Did you guys hear during the race that Sete might not get that Ducati ride after all? Wow...that would suck for him if he got shafted out of that ride and Checa stays on board. Ought to be interesting in the next few weeks to see who finally goes where |
