James Toseland took second and Alex Barros third. Troy Corser crashed out of the race on lap four when he high sided at MG corner, he landed right in the middle of the track and unfortunately was clipped by Barros who only had a split second to avoid the prone rider, thankfully Corser is just bruised from the crash. It looked like James Toseland and his new Winston Ten Kate Honda were going to take the top spot as he put an aggressive move on Haga early on to take the lead, which he held until lap fifteen. It was on this lap that Bayliss got past and started to pull a lead over the Brit. By the end of the race Bayliss was 5.528sec clear of Toseland with Barros 14.312secs from the leader. Barros has had no testing pre season testing and has literally been thrown in the deep end, "Thanks to my team they are a good help to me," he said, "This is a fast track and I know it well. With the dry weather we have had a chance for some good set up time. I missed out a bit at the start and then with the incident with Troy…I was worried he was hurt." At the moment the engine that Barros is running is fairly standard as he went on to say "It is hard to over take but is a production engine so I make safe move. We had not testing just straight to racing." Second place rider Toseland explained what happened when he lost his lead "Bayliss out braked me into Honda and then pulled away. In a way he got his just deserts in that after what happened in race one. When he came past he was consistently fast, we are trying to push him hard. There is only one point between us. The Honda is a fantastic machine and I'm happy to be on the podium," he concluded. "It's been a great weekend, I was disappointed after the first race but the second went well," said Bayliss "I just wanted to show James a wheel here and there, and see if he made a mistake which he didn't." After fading in race one Bayliss went for a harder tyre compound "The tyres worked good and with three laps to go I was nearly in the same place as I was in race one, so I was as delicate as I could be." |
