2006 Yamaha R6 world launch - exclusive first report

Well, apparently it's 38 degrees Celsius in Qatar today, which is pretty hot. In fact, according to JP, the only cool thing in the desert today is Yamaha's new 2006 R6. We've just called him on his mobile, and here's what he's got to say so far.
"I guess the interesting thing is how much it still feels like an R6. I mean, it looks so amazingly different, I sort of expected a whole new feel to the bike. But that's not the case.
"The new engine is pretty revvy, and is matched to a close-ratio gearbox, but the wide rev range means you're able to hold gears for a long time around here. There's definitely plenty of punch from the new engine, but it doesn't feel super-powerful compared with the other 600s. It's probably comparable to the ZX-636.
"The new front brakes feel stronger than before, and together with the new slipper clutch, it's more composed hard on the brakes. There's less of the fishtailing that could affect the old model.
"Best thing is how easy the new bike is. It feels small and controllable, and it's easy to get on it and just ride fast."

Can't wait!!!!

Can't wait to buy one, but it's a lot of $$ to lowside:P

À chaque fois que je ride ma CBR, je me demande: "Boy! How much better can they make these little machines???"

Le fait est qu'à cette taille, à cette cylindrée, il y a une limite théorique à la performance qui peut être atteinte, et je ne peux m'empêcher de penser qu'on s'en approche. On se rendra pas au point où les 600 vont avoir 180 hp avec torque to match... C'est juste pas possible. Et à moins de greffer les moteurs dans des pocket bikes, ils pourront pas rapetisser les motos encore beaucoup ou les rendre plus fragiles...

Les nouvelles R6 et Gixxer vont être hot, mais je pense que la plus grosse nouveauté sera leur nouveauté, justement. Pensen pas qu'elles soient ben plus rapide, ben plus légères... Sont belles, mais rendu où on est, il y a des limites au progrès qui peut être fait.

juste ca pour moi ca va vraiment amél;iorer et on ne parle pas du tout de hp

En fait je suis partiellement d'Accord avec toi. D'accord sur le fait qu'il y a des limites. Toutefois je ne crois pas que celles-ci se trouvent au niveau du progrès technologique. Ces limites sont plutôt celle de la majorité des pilotes de moto de rue qui n'ont pas les capacités ni l'expertises pour déceller l'évolution.

Stay tuned, we had two Canadian journalist down in Quatar also they were both amazed by the bike...even one report that it's close to a 750 powerplant.
