Well, if it's blowing blue smoke, changing the oil for a thicker grade is only like putting a Band-Aid on a fracture, because this means that your rings or bearings or valve seals are getting tired and may need to be replaced in the not too distant future.

Try 15w50 but don't go way heavier than that, as you still need something that circulates well enough to lubricate all the various (small) moving parts in your motor.

Thanks for the replies guys..

well the bike has been sitting in the garage for the past 4 years and my mechanic told me ti's normal it does that.. he asked me to change the oil and then go from there..

All i know is there are smokes coming out after i shift from gear to gear but not all the time.. it only happens once a while and it shots out lots of smokes but it quickly goes away.. um.. i have no idea.. it's my first bike and my knowledge is very limited on this kinda thing

is ring and valve thing a big job to do? i will do it if it's not gonna cost much but if it's a big job i think i will just wait till later
thanks

Let's just say it's not a small job. But I am assuming (given the year and model of your bike) that you didn't pay a fortune for it. It's normal for a worn engine that puffs smoke to do that upon acceleration.

My advice would be to ride it as it is (unless it gets so clunky or runs so bad as to scare you, leaks or seizes...) and just put in some more oil from time to time to top it up. That's still probably fine for you to cut your teeth on. Then either have it fixed (if you can find someone to do it for cheap), try and find another motor to drop in, or change bikes after a while.

Can't be worse than following Godzilla around the track.

Come to think of it, I think that's why I wasn't able to keep up with him, the visibility was so bad in the clouds of smoke he was creating :P
