Par défaut sv650s vs VFR

Yup, I want to buy my first bike and these two are the ones that come to my mind so far. I want a bike that isnt classified has sport to the SAAQ. So wich of these is the must fun and best to learn on? I'm also open to any other bike suggestions. Also, since I'm a lil scared of dropping my bike, how much would it cost to buy and install frame slider on a vfr (if its possible for the year I'll get)?

-Thanks

You need to drill holes to install frame sliders on VFR! I think the best choice would be a SV 650S. Great handling, enough power to have fun, very light. The most affordable between these two bikes.

My VFR is my first bike... The VFR is also heavier.. it's intimidating at first. I didn't want to buy a bike for 2years and change it so I went with the VFR. I'll give you the advice people here gave me when I asked the same question last year : buy the bike you want. If you're careful and know your limits, you'll be safe. Just try to avoid 1000cc SuperSports or a busa :P

If you don't mind changing bike in 1-2 seaons, go with the SV, you'll be safer.

I have a 2002 and R&G make sliders for them (2002+). The only catch is that you have to change the coolant bottle. The R&G comes with a bottle and all the hardware.

As I know, SVs are stolen for tracks. Make sure it's not worst than VFRs...

The sv gets borring that fast? I've been told it has enough torque to let you enjoy it for more than a year or two... I must admit that the v-twin attracts me alot and the fact thats its pretty hard to get some framesliders on a VFR makes me aim towards the SV

@maxpat82 : Do think the SV is the best between VFR and SV or even the other ones you listed?

Rdketcup have his since 4 years I think...and he still enjoy it.

SV is the best overhall first bike...great resale value if you get tired of it.

people that say they're gonna keep their first bike for more then 2-3year have ride for more then this.
I kept my first bike more 3 year before falling in love with y gsxr750 in 2004 and it's for sale (non officialy sold)
So many people I know.

so rider doesn't tend to keep their bike for longer they use to keep their car.
So if you're a "car changer"...you'll be the same for your bike.(bike are cheaper then car so you tend to want to change it faster then car too)

The VFR 2002 and up
+ great handling, comfy enough to tour on, it's a SPORT touring bike, a V4!!!.
- a bit on the heavy side, expensive to buy

The SV650
+ V-Twin fun to ride, lighter & cheaper ($) than the VFR,
- not as comfy as the VFR for long rides, finish not at the same level as the VFR.

To conclude, buy the one you like the most!!!

I forgot something... price...

My brother just bought its first bike, a brand new 2007 Kawa Z750S. He paid $7000. That's what I paid for my 2002 VFR, last year.

If you're unsure about the VFR, don't buy it. I never tried a SV but I've heard really good thing about this bike. like maxpat82 said, it's probably the best starter bike.. along with the FZ6(if you prefer Yamaha over Suzuki). The only downside of the FZ6 : no low-end torque compared to a small V-TWIN like the SV.

The riding position on the SV is more aggresive. The FZ6 is more relaxed.

Visit the dealers and sit on each of them. You might be surprised

there's choice for everybody.
If you like low end torque: v-twin.
rev happy and kick in the butt power: FI 4cyl.
linear power delivery: V4 or some 4cyl.

after that: you have the fairing or not sport or not.....bref: everything for everyone.

the Bandit600/650 is a good choice too and can be grab for real cheap on the used market.
