Question Tires

Newbie Question:

Do you guys put the original size tires on your sport bikes or is it like a car where you can play with the sizes a little?

OE size!!
except if you have a 120/65/17 on the fornt you can put a 120/70/17 whitout any problem.

for the rear stick to the oe size. (You stil can go to a 55 rear instead of the 50...but stick with the same width)

I'm assuming you ask the question because you'd want to go wider, not narrower. Original size is the indication of what will fit "naturally" on your rims. Remember that bike tires are rounded and that fitting wider rubber on a tight rim will mean squishing the tire in a manner that is not optimal and affects its profile. A tire's profile is going to impact the bike's handling characteristics and grip much more so than on any car.

Second, bike tires are much more standardized than car tires, so most tires are generally available primarily in the original sizes. Not like car tires where, sometimes, in order to get a particular tire, you have to cheat on the sizes.

One size change that is becoming increasingly common is to fit a TALLER rear tire than original, say a 190/55 instead of an original 190/50 tire. As for other sizes, you best bet is to leave that alone and use stock sizes.

all that is mention above is right

but if u'r stuck or just want to go wider or slimmer(which peole almost never but i do) the size is always 10 less and 10 more. ex: if u hav a 180 tire u can to 190 or down size to 170... they both fit ur 5.5" width rim
but don't forget that ur bike will handle differently... nothing dangerous though

next time when asking questions, t would nice if u gave the reason of ur question to help us answer them n that goes to everyone

The reason I asked is that I need to change one of my tires and I just wanted to know how it would work. Mostly out of curiousity and to make sure that I have all the info before I purchase.

Thanks guys. Very much appreciated
