the 04-05 zx-10 are the same while the gsxr 03-04 are the same,so the zx-10 was better in 04 but the gsxr was revamped for 05-06 and was the better bike.the motors are very close with the gsxr only slightly stronger down low to the mid. the big diff. was the gsxr being more stable when pushed hard.i was lucky to hammer back to back 180km wheelies on the 05 and 06 zx-10. the 05 feeling very much like my gixxer with a wicked mid-range puch that lifts the front at will. then jumped on the 06 and that punch was not there, it was blended in to a upper-mid to top end pull that was still very strong but smooth. ......the bottom line your buddys gsxr does nothing wrong but 04 was an epic open class year -birth of the cbr1000rr and zx-10, big time revamp of the r-1 and the same gsxr that won the year before was just great instead of mind-blowing....tell buddy to check the 05-06 gsxr before joining the darkside
