J'ai pensé que ça pourrait interesser certains alors voici quelques photos d'une petite ride dans San Francisco posté par un gars du coin sur un autre forum et gratuitement recopié ici.
Urban Jungle Ride [hr:2296fc846c] I had a need to go up to “The City” (San Francisco) yesterday. Every year a Bay Area radio station (KFOG) puts out a charity CD of music recorded by assorted musicians at KFOG sponsored small local shows. The proceeds of the CD sale go to a local food drive for the needy. This is their 13’th year. I have all the past years CD’s. Some really good music. In the past they distributed these CD’s thru Tower Records. With Tower Records demise (last year) they decided to sell the CD’s “only” at Virgin Records Superstore in SF… or on line to registered “fogheads”. I’m a registered foghead but wanted to ride anyway so made plans to head on up for the CD Saturday after finishing some morning chores. Thus, my ride into the “Urban” jungle. (or is that the zoo?) I slabbed it up and slabbed it back, but also did some exploring around the some of hills of San Francisco (Nob Hill, Russian Hill, North Beach) and then the piers after hitting Virgin Records. Now for the fun stuff… urban jungle pictures. After getting the CD’s in the Downtown area (Stockton & Market St). I followed Stockton St. North and rode thru the Chinatown area. It was way to busy and crowded to stop anywhere for pictures here. I then took a left turn on Broadway, bypassing the Broadway tunnel to get to the top of this street. The road is blocked with barriers at the top after Broadway intersects with Taylor St.. These photo’s are looking up this last couple of blocks before the road block. ![]() Now for the common disclaimer… this is much steeper than the pictures make it look. I rode to the top of Broadway and stopped sideways at the barrier for these shots looking down. It was way to steep to try to park the bike so I just shot from the saddle. ![]() (That’s part of the Bay Bridge where it connects with Angel Island, and Oakland in the far distance there) While I was up there I saw a couple of vehicles “back up” this hill to get to the (sideways only) parking. ![]() Then I went back to Taylor and took a left (North) to get to the Filbert St intersection. Filbert is known as the steepest street in SF. This picture is looking East “down” Filbert St. ![]() Then I continued on Taylor to Greenwich Street where I saw a nice view of Alcatraz. ![]() I also noticed another familiar landmark looking East from this stop, Coit Tower Having never been to Coit Tower/Telegraph Hill I decided I would head up there. On the way up Lombard (famous crooked street), which is the Telegraph Hill access street, I stopped for this picture of the famous Transamerica Pyramid building. ![]() There was a sign going into Pioneer Park (what Telegraph Hill/Coit Tower Area is called) I saw a sign that said, when this light is flashing there is no parking and you must wait. The light was flashing. There was a line of cars waiting to get in. Being on the Moto I just passed everybody and went right on in. Moto access capabilities are very very useful in the Urban Jungle! Coit Tower ![]() ![]() ![]() On the way out I stopped for this shot of a large ship coming into SF Bay, just in front of Alcatraz. ![]() __________________ As the oil of brilliance thins over the puddle of human discourse, I try to make amusing swirls in the micron-thin film of my own intellectual superficiality. - Joseph Glydon Being late afternoon I decided to get some lunch. Crab season has just kicked off so it was some fresh caught crab. Where else to get it than… ![]() I know, kinda crappy photo. But the cool cloud pattern and the seagull on the sign just made me have to take the photo. Here’s a better one of the sign/area. ![]() After a nice little meal of fresh crab and some clam chowder I decided to visit the place where the crab boats drop off their catch, and re-supply themselves. I pulled along a service access road onto the back side of Pier 45. Here you can see the crews unloading one of the crab boats. If you look carefully you can see some of the crabs overflowing one of the white tubs, to the right side of the picture. ![]() I rode on past these folks out to the end of Pier 45 for these (partial) shots of the Golden Gate Bridge. ![]() While out there this patrol boat pulled on in. ![]() Crab Pots ready for deployment to the boats. ![]() Then it was off the wharf and back to Jefferson St. where it ends in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. An old tall mast ship docked on the Hyde Street Pier. ![]() Lots to see here, from Big Props to the Ghirardelli chocolate factory. ![]() Channel 11 news was there hoping to catch one of the swimmers being bitten by sea lions. This has been a problem in the last few weeks with over 13 people being bitten while swimming. The authorities believe it is one (possibly sick) animal, but since they are protected species there is nothing they can do but warn people not to swim. Then it was up to Hyde & Beach Street where they turn the cable cars around. ![]() From there I continued to the SF Maritime Museum. ![]() Once again I rode to some place where I wasn’t really supposed to be. I took a service access road to the beach side of the Museum. Here I took one last look at the Bay before heading home. It was getting late. ![]() The incoming weather front made for a spectacular sunset, which unfortunately I only got to see between some of the rows of buildings. Here I am on Lombard, just 1 block west from the “crookedest street” section, just above Van Ness. ![]() The cars you see are lining up (towards me) to go down Lombards crooked section. It was amusing to hear them screech their tires as they did the stop-n-go thing made necessary by the stop signs at the top of Lombard (at Hyde). The sunset was really vivid! (what I could see of it) ![]() ![]() If I would have departed Fishermans Wharf sooner I could have been to Ocean Beach in time for the actual sunset. Oh well, maybe another time! Hope you enjoyed this trip thru parts of the Urban Jungle known as San Francisco! John
