Accident - Hit and Run

My bike was hit and dropped while parked today. The woman left the scene and I found a note from a witness with the plate number of the car on it. I have the phone number of the witness and am trying to reach him, but overall what should I do? The paint is messed up, the brake handle broke, and I'm not sure what other damage there is yet as I have to take a closer look. Do I call the cops? Insurance? SAAQ?

First thing I believe would be to call the cop. I think a police report will make thing easier when dealing with the insurance company, if you are to claim.

And the person should received a nice ticket for that hit & run

Call the witness to get the full story, ask him or her if they are willing to help you by making a testimony at the police.
Then call the cops.

Make it quick, do not wait.

An accident is an accident...you don't have to call the police for an accident when there are no injuries or criminal act involved. A joint report is fine in this case.

But a hit&run isn't an accident...it's criminal. So yes, you should call the police about it.

The witnes highly deserves a chocolate box or something IMO.

Basically, for a hit and run, no matter what, your insurance company will ask you for a Police report. So first thing to do is to go to the cops and file a report, mentioning the witness' number and whatever they left as info.

You should also contact the witness to tell them that you will be filing a report and they cops will be contacting them for their version of the incident.

From there, make your insurance claim.

Oh, and don't forget to thank the witness!
