Question: How much will the Switchblade kit for my bike cost? Answer: To Be Announced. Prices and availability will be posted on this website as soon as they are finalized. Question: Will the Switchblade conversion kit be available for my bike? Answer: Our plan is to initially offer Switchblade kits for the most popular new model competition off-road motorcycles - including the 250cc and up motocross and enduro motorcycles from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and KTM (not necessarily in that order). We also intend to support the venerable Kawasaki KX500 and Honda CR500 (now, alas, out of production) since there are a lot of them out there begging for conversion to snowbike use. We will then evaluate the snowbike conversion kit market for models that are one or more years older. We do not intend to specifically offer Switchblade kits for the heavier enduro bikes (for example, the antiquated-design Honda XR’s, Suzuki DR’s, Kawasaki KLX’s, etc.) We feel these bikes are too heavy or they lack adequate power to weight ratios to be effective as snowbikes. We do not anticipate offering - at least initially - Switchblade kits for the European dirt bikes that have right-side chain drive (Husaberg, Husqvarna, etc.) as this would require a large tooling investment for a relatively small market. Question: How will 2Moto decide which motorcycle models to offer the Switchblade conversion kit for? Answer: There are two factors driving our decisions regarding which motorcycle models for which 2Moto will offer versions of the Switchblade conversion kit: 1) Which motorcycles have ‘adequate’ power to weight ratio, relatively low motorcycle weight, and frame and fork geometries compatible with the generic kit assemblies) and 2) Potential market size (how many of that model have sold or are expected to sell). Question: Will 2Moto ever sell kits for older models of off-road motorcycles? Answer: For certain older models, yes. Based upon the criteria stated in the answer above, there are several models of older (one or more years old) dirt bikes that are very capable and geometry-compatible with the Switchblade kit. There are a some of these older bike models that sold well with large numbers of these bikes still in use - including the Kawasaki KX500 and the Honda CR500. There are several 250cc motocross and enduro bike models that kits for the newer models will fit with only minor modifications. If you would like to help us know what you want, please go to our Contact Us page and fill out the online email form to let us know what motorcycle model you would like to see the Switchblade kit available for. Your input is of great value in helping us to know what you folks out there really want. Question: Will there be Switchblade kits available for 125cc motocross bikes? Answer: Yes - initially by default, and later - as 125cc snowbike closed course racing becomes popular - intentionally. Several 125cc motocross motorcycles share frame and fork geometries with their 250cc siblings, such that the Switchblade kits that are produced for the 250cc motocross bikes will fit their 125cc motocross brothers. As previously stated in the answer to this question on the Capabilities & Performance FAQ’s, 125cc motocross motorcycles likely have enough horsepower for snowbike operation on hard-pack or firm-pack snow - like that found on a closed-course racing track or on groomed or snowmobile-packed trails, but would be somewhat power-deficient for off-course or off-trail use in softer, deeper snow conditions. Question: I can’t afford snowmobiling and dirt biking, too. Will snowbiking be cheaper than snowmobiling? Answer: While the cost of a new motocross or enduro dirt bike and the Switchblade kit can equal the cost of a new performance snowmobile, the overall cost of ownership can be much less. So, what are the financial benefits? First, The Switchblade kit lets you use your dirt bike all four seasons of the year. You only have to have room in your garage to store your bike and the snowbike or dirt bike components that aren’t on the bike at the time - certainly much less space than a snowmobile requires, so you don’t have to rent space to store a snowmobile and trailer. Second, two snow bikes (or dirt bikes) can be hauled in the space required for one snowmobile. Your converted snowbike can most likely be hauled on your dirt bike trailer or in your pickup - pretty much the same way you haul it as a dirt bike, with loading and unloading simplified using an accessory snowbike loading ramp available from 2Moto. You don’t have to buy a full-size pickup and snowmobile trailer to haul your snow bike like you do a snowmobile. Third, Switchblade converted snowbikes typically use much less gas than snowmobiles do, so there’s another savings. Compared to snowmobiles, you certainly get way more fun for less money - and you have the dirt bike to ride the rest of the year! |
